Our history
Established in 1960, our journey as a polyurethane foam producer and converter started in Greater Manchester. In 1972, the Alfreton foaming and conversion site was established, which has since served as our centre of excellence. In 1992, we embraced the opportunity to join the global stage, becoming a key player in the corporate world. This phase allowed us to leverage resources and expertise on an international scale, further enhancing our capabilities and reach. In 2023, we proudly embraced our independence, enhancing our ability to swiftly respond to our customers' needs while leveraging our extensive experience.

GIL Investments
Alfrecell is now owned by GIL Investments who purchased the UK Comfort Foams division from Recticel in June 2023.
GIL Investments is a UK-headquartered private investment firm formed in 1991 which acquires controlling stakes in businesses and aims to support their growth over the long term.
GIL Investments currently has thirteen UK-based companies and over £400m of revenue across a variety of traditional sectors.
Our timeline
July 1960
Founded in Greater Manchester,
Harrison & Jones was a foam manufacturer, boasting multiple converting sites across the UK.
Beaverfoam was established as an independent foam manufacturer and converter in Alfreton, Derbyshire, with a site portfolio growing to seven production facilities servicing all four corners of the UK.
February 1972
Beaverfoam and Harrison & Jones were acquired by Recticel NV/SA, a Belgian-based multinational specialising in the production of polyurethane foams, with operations spanning across Europe, North America, and Asia-Pacific. Recticel Limited was formed.
January 1992
Recticel Limited UK became a leading UK provider of foam-based products for industries including: Furniture, Bedding, Comfort, Technical, Automotive, and Building Insulation.
1990s
Recticel Limited UK Comfort Foams division, consisting of the two manufacturing sites in Alfreton, was acquired by GIL Investments, a UK-headquartered private investment firm formed in 1991 which acquires controlling stakes in businesses and aims to support their growth over the long term.
